Color, Lace, Fishtail Braids

I have a new post up on A Boston Blazer, exploring the Esplanade in Boston. The colors for this shoot were absolutely beautiful and it was fun to do a quick painting of one of the shots.

Two-Toned

As I mentioned in a previous post; I've started collaborating on a fashion blog that highlights both men's and women's fashion. I'm enjoying exploring fashion illustration, styling, and photography. I recently posted a piece about black and white stripes, one of my favorite current trends. Much more to come to that blog soon!

A Place in the Sun

I recently did some quick illustrations for A Place in the Sun Foundation. The illustrations were for a children's workbook. Here is a picture I created illustrating "circle time," one of the daily activities for the kids. I created the illustration by drawing the line and color separately and combining the layers in Photoshop. I really like the off-register look of this technique and want to experiment more with it in the future!

New Illustrations on Etsy

I created these two fashion illustrations, which are now on my Etsy site. The illustrations are for an upcoming post on A Boston Blazer discussing one of my favorite classic patterns (stripesss). Stay tuned for the upcoming post!

I haven't shown many of my covers from the past few months. Here are a few that have been released fairly recently! I work so far ahead of the release date that I tend to forget about showing them.

A Boston Blazer

I recently created a fashion blog that showcases both men's and women's apparel. I am currently working on the design along with some illustrations for the site. Check it out: www.abostonblazer.com. It's in the fledgling stages but there is much more to come!

Skyfall

I drew this recently for a birthday present. The drawing is inspired by the most recent Bond movie, Skyfall. It was fun to work with a different color palette from my usual work. I think I will have to experiment more with blues in the future!

Press for Prairie Silence

I was excited to hear a comment about my cover design on The Christoper Gabriel Program this past Monday. Around one minute in the host says some very nice things about the cover! "Jill pitched this book to me and my first reaction was (...) I'm not really interested. The book came (...) and I looked at the jacket (...) and the jacket of the book drew me in." The host then admits that he really enjoyed the book once he started reading. Here's to judging a book by it's cover. You can find the segment here. Below is the reposted cover:

Another Christmas present

My dad can be tough to buy presents for. It seems that everything he wants he just goes and buys for himself! This year I decided to surprise him with a set of illustrated greeting cards that he could use for his work. My dad works for Kennesaw State University and their mascot is an owl-hence the subject of this drawing.

I drew this portrait this past holiday season as a commissioned Christmas present. I have a better scan, which I will post at some point. For now this is a photo I was sent by the client.
