During the month of November I was featured in Applied Arts Magazine as a student award winner. Here is the spread that my piece was featured on (top spot!). Check out the other winners here http://www.appliedartsmag.com/winners_student.php?sort=school&year=2011 . Also, congrats to Ivy Tai ( http://www.ivytai.com/ ) for her win as well!

Hopefully I will have more to post soon! It's been quite a busy couple of months getting used to living in a new city and working at a new job.

I recently entered a competition and voting is now open. You should vote for me! In order to vote you have to create an account with the website. It's actually a really cool site.  Here is the link to my piece http://www.nowness.com/day/2011/10/12/1671/drawing-inspiration-view-and-vote?submissionid=1072&submissionpage=1&submissionsort=votes . The challenge was to create a piece inspired by a Haruki Murakami book. I made a piece last semester inspired by "The Wind Up Bird Chronicle" so I decided to enter that. The artwork combines several disjointed scenes/images from the book that I found particularly compelling.

Things To Come

So I recently got a job as Design Assistant at Beacon Press!  I am helping out with the department and doing some book jacket designs.  Lots of fun!  Hence the incredibly long time since I have posted anything, and still I don't have anything I can post.  Everything I've been working on is to be kept under wraps until published!

Buuuut I am working on some stuff with a couple friends/on my own- products and illustrations!  Here is a sneak peak of things to come!

Going to be exploring body systems!

Applied Arts!

I recently found out that I was selected as a student winner for the Applied Arts Magazine November/December issue.  A CD design I created while at school was selected and will be featured in the magazine.  Super excited to see it in print!  This is the piece I submitted:

It's been so long!

So... I've been really bad about updating this blog recently (graduating from college and moving across the country is to blame) but I do have a piece that I haven't posted yet.  So here it is:

This is a CD packaging design for the Rihanna's album "Loud", hopefully you can tell from the first that the packaging folds together interestingly.  I wanted to create packaging that combined the book jacket with the box in an interesting way.  This is the result!

The Devil Bird

This image is in response to an assignment called "beasts" where I was given the task to choose a beast from mythology, cryptozoology, or wherever.  I decided to illustrate a bird called the "devil bird" from cryptozoology.  It is believed to be an omen of bad luck/death because the bird's cry sounds like a human crying in agony.  Like a lot of my work the piece is interactive and the front wing moves to reveal what is underneath.

Queens of the Stone Age Band Poster

Here is an image I created for a band poster for Queens of the Stone Age.  The album title is "Era Vulgaris," meaning "common era" in Latin.

People at Coffee Shops

To relax it's sometimes nice to go get coffee with friends and sketch for a while.  I wish I had time to do this more often!

Diddy Dirty Money

I made these for an all color issue of Brown University's "Post" magazine.  It's the spring weekend issue so my illustration is for the band Diddy Dirty Money, the headliners this year for Spring Weekend.  Having lots of fur and bling was super important.

Promotional Image!

Here is an image of a character I created for promotional purposes.  I thought it would be fun to have drawers coming out of the girl showing certain characteristics about her.  I really enjoy creating work that is 2D but has elements of 3D.  Hope you like it!

Shoe Designs

This winter I took a shoe design class in the Industrial Design department at RISD.  The class provided a very interesting perspective into a part of the design world I had yet to be exposed to.  During the course of the 6 weeks we met many different people in the industry and learned about every aspect of shoe design and production.  Here are two different shoe designs I created.  Each design was presented with several different boards explaining the inspiration, the customer, the market competition, and other important information.

Assignment:  Design a modern shoe inspired by a shoe style existing before the 20th century.

Assignment:  Design a shoe for a made-up sport.  My shoe is designed for a Quidditch Seeker (yep I'm a dork!).  The design aesthetic is inspired by hawks.

First Post!

My most recent portfolio work is on my website (www.GabiAndersonStudio.com Visit it!) so I don't want to be redundant and put work up that is already on the web.  I took a class this past semester called antique processes and decided to make prints of some of my drawings.  Here are a couple of the prints that I made.
